Dropped my car off for a simple fix and now its a saga

I really thought I was being smart taking it to the dealer for a software update and a minor sensor issue. I figured it would be a half day thing, maybe they would even get it done while I waited. That was five days ago. They keep telling me the technician is backed up and they are waiting for approval from the regional office on the warranty claim. It is wild how different factors can blow up the timeline. I have been trying to figure out exactly what affects car repair duration because this seems insane for such a small job. It seems like its never just the work itself. It is the communication lag between the dealer and the manufacturer, the availability of a specific technician who is trained on my car model, and the sheer volume of other cars ahead of me that all need the same guy. I get that they are busy, but a simple heads up that this would take a week would have saved me a lot of aggravation. I would have just waited to bring it in when I had a vacation week or something.
